Margerett's Memo May 2010

M-O-T-H-E-R is for the ...

Margerett's Memo

May 2010

M - O - T - H - E - R

M is for the million things she gave me
O means only that she’s growing old
T is for the tears she shed to save me,
H is for her heart of purist gold.
E is for her eyes, with love-light shining
R means right and right she'll always be.

Put them all together, they spell...
MOTHER- a word that means the world to me
Howard Johnson - 1915

Hello Everyone

Anna Jarvis - known as the Mother of Mothers Day. Through her hard work the 1st Mothers Day service was held on May 10th, 1907. She handed out white carnations to all the mothers present. A bill was passed in 1914 by President Woodrow Wilson to establish Mothers Day in the States. It did not take long for other countries to follow suite.

It is just as well we fall in love with our little ones just after birth, as our life is never the same again, as this poem shows:

BEFORE I WAS A MOM!

Before I was a mom
I slept as late as I wanted & never worried about how late I got to bed. I brushed my hair & teeth every day.
Before I was a mom
I cleaned my house each day. I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby. I didn’t worry whether or not my plants were poisonous. I never thought about immunizations.
Before I was a mom
I had never been puked on, pooped on, spit on, chewed on or peed on. I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts. I slept all night.
Before I was a mom
I never held down a screaming child so that doctors could do tests or give shots. I never looked into teary eyes and cried. I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin. I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.
Before I was a mom
I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn’t want to put it down. I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn’t stop the hurt. I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much. I never knew that I could love someone so much. I never knew I would love being a mom.
Before I was a mom
I didn’t know the feeling of having my heart outside my body. I didn’t know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby. I didn’t know that bond between a mother and her child. I didn’t know that something so small could make me feel so important.
Before I was a mom
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was ok. I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache, the wonderment or the satisfaction of being a mom. I didn’t know I was capable of feeling so much, before I was a mom!

Mark Twain said " My mother had a great deal of trouble with me, but I think she enjoyed it"

"There never was a child so lovely but his mother was glad to get him asleep" said Ralph Waldo Emerson.

The funny man Groucho Marx said " My mother loved children & she would have given anything if I had been one"

Chinese proverb, " There is only one pretty child in the world and every mother has it."

Milton Benle wants to know, " If evolution really works, how come mothers only have two hands?"
- Now that is a good question!

We all want to give our children the best we can afford, but something money cant buy is a stable home life. A home filled with love & fun is worth millions. How many children in the world don’t experience this? how many children don’t get enough to eat. We see them on TV & my heart goes out to them. My heart also goes out to their mothers. As mothers, by their very nature, are nurturing but this is denied them. Lets give a thought to these mothers, this Mothers Day!

Also, I must mention the very lucky ones like me! Not only am I a mom to Yvonne & Andrew, but Granny to Scott & Jodie. Scott calls me Maggie & Jodie calls me Nan. (I would happily answer to any name) When I hear woman say, " I am not ready to be a granny yet" I am really surprised. I can tell you, the younger the granny the better. You need energy to roll on the grass, jump on the trampoline, catch ball & run after the jumping grass hopper to catch it in a jar. These are just a few duties of a granny (besides sneaking the occasional sweet)

To those of us whose moms have departed this life, a Special Poem:

Mom, we miss you so very much, on every Mothers Day
And not just then, but every minute, since you went away.
You were the centre of our lives, before your soul passed on,
Its just so hard for us to believe that you are really gone.
But we celebrate the life you lived & all the things you gave us,
Our wonderful memories, Mom, of you, are the things that comfort & save us.
Please think of us, as we think of you, with hearts so full of love,
We're looking up at you, sweet Mom, as you look at us from above!

All that is left for me to say is HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to all our Acorn & Risso Moms.

May you get thoroughly spoilt!

Margerett
