[Pinned] Staying fresh with the Acornkids Gentle Face Wash and Face Refresher.

In my home, we have two tweens (for those of you not up-to-date with the lingo, this means that I still have a year or two left before facing those terrifying teenage years!) So naturally, this is the age where we start talking about skin care. And just to give you a heads up – boys seem to be much more interested in this part of their personal hygiene than when we were growing up!

My son is a big fan of the Acornkids Gentle Face Wash. He uses this gel every day in the shower and loves the fresh smell that it leaves on his skin. We’ve both noticed how it’s really helped to nourish and soothe his skin while cleaning away any pimple-causing impurities… and we all know what a confidence boost clear skin can give you, no matter what your age!My daughter, on the other hand, is absolutely in love with the Face Refresher. (And if I’m honest, so am I!) There’s nothing better than spritzing your face with the really gentle and refreshing water-based toner on a hot and sticky night… we both find it very cooling and calming.

What’s really great about both of these products is that they’re packed with cucumber and chamomile extracts. Chamomile is a one of the best natural skin soothers which gets rid of any red marks and generally just makes your skin feel fresher and smoother. Cucumber gives your skin that beautiful glow that lets you look and feel refreshed. And let’s be honest, who doesn’t want glowing skin?

To be completely honest, even though these products are meant to be used by kids and teenagers, I also use them when I get too busy to order more of my Akina products. And I really enjoy them too (especially the Face Refresher which also removes the last little bits of makeup before I go to sleep).

So if you and your kids aren’t already using the Acornkids Gentle Face Wash and the Face Refresher, just follow this link to give them a try right now. I’m sure that you’ll love them!

[Pinned] Touch it, mould it, blend it...Snow Dough!

I want to let you in on a little secret… I still play with some of the Acornkids products every day! Snow Dough is one of them as it doubles as an amazing stress ball. I love absent-mindedly playing with it while I’m working or brainstorming new ideas. There is just something completely soothing about the texture of this incredibly bubbly yet gooey dough! If you haven’t yet, you should definitely try it. But that’s not all that originally drew me to this strangely textured substance.

When looking into ways to teach my kids about colour awareness, I knew that I needed something more than just mixing paints. I wanted something that was like a brand new experience to them every time they used it, and that allowed them to be creative is so many more ways than painting a picture.

Snow Dough was (and still is) not only a great sensory experience for my kids, but it is so incredibly versatile that it allowed them to personalise absolutely everything from mugs to picture frames to building tiny little cities on my dining room table. No two creations made out of this fun red, blue, green yellow and white dough were ever the same! What really fascinated me is that, they older my kids got, the more finesse they had in their Snow Dough artwork. And this is when I really saw the value in helping my kids build their fine motor skills through such a creative and versatile product!

So to get your hands into this great gooey dough (and for your kids too, of course!), just follow this link right now to order it to be delivered straight to your front door.

[Pinned] My Favourite Mess-free Sandpit!

Who’s a fan of sandpits? I know I most certainly am. I remember watching my kids marvel at the sensation of sand slipping through their fingers, the look of pure joy and deep-rooted pride when they unveiled their majestic hand-sculpted castles (or, let’s be honest, the mound of sand with twigs sticking out of it). There’s something truly great about watching your kids as they allow themselves to become completely lost in their own creativity! Now who’s a fan of the stains, dirt and mess that generally and very quickly follows this moment of wonderment? Definitely not me! So when I came across this Kinetic Sand, I knew that I just had to add it to our Acornkids collection. And believe me, my kids went crazy when they first saw it too.  This is amazing sand is much more fluid than normal sand, it kind of feels like cotton candy, or perhaps what I imagine holding a cloud would feel like. What I love most about Kinetic Sand, is that its fluid, it moves, you ...

[Pinned] Kaleidofoam of Fun!

As a working mum to two beautiful children, the time that I get to spend with my kids is more precious to me than their weight in gold! This is why I take my every spare second to connect and fun have together. And what better time to do this than during bath time?

Kaleidofoam is by far one of our favourite ways to wash in the bath. This really fun-feeling, coloured foam soap means that I never have to beg and plead for my kids to wash their little bodies. They love to ‘colour’ themselves in with Kaleidofoam from head-to-toe and, believe me, this never gets old! (Oh, and don’t worry… you’re not going to be sending your kids to school dressed as Smurfs, it washes right off with water!)

Depending on how they feel on the day, my kids choose to colour themselves in either red, blue, green or yellow, or a combination of all four on different parts of their bodies which is by far their favourite! This not only helps me to teach my kids about colours and body awareness, but also builds their gross motor skills as we bounce the foam balls around the water or giggle as they build bigger noses or brightly coloured beards. And what’s even better, the non-toxic ingredients and pH balance of Kaleidofoam means that I never have to worry about it irritating their skin.

Like I said, Kaleidofoam is a firm favourite in our home. If you’d like to read more about it or even buy it online, just follow this link right now http://goo.gl/29xYjc  and we can send it straight to your front door for the never-ending fun with yours kids to begin!

[Pinned] Physical Development

Last week we chatted about the Social skills that our little ones need to develop before being able to sit comfortably in a classroom to concentrate on their work. (If you haven’t read it yet, please click here[KH1]  to follow the link and don’t forget to leave a comment!) This week, we’re going to tackle another misconception which is their Physical Development. Luckily, this is something that we can all work on during the Summer Holidays with our kids!

Most of us look at our little ones and think that, because they’re roughly the same height and size of an average 6 year old, they must be sufficiently physically developed. But this is actually not the best indicator to check.

Rather check out for these pointers to see if your kids are lacking in their physical development: <

  1. They battle to site still or upright, especially over a longer period of time.

  2. They are fidgety and battle to concentrate on one activity at a time.

  3. They move their tongues while cutting or drawing.

  4. They press too hard on the paper and maybe break their crayons.

  5. Now you may be wondering what on earth concentrating and fidgeting has to do with your kids’ Physical Development, but this is because their Physical School Readiness skills are actually also very closely linked to your kids’ muscle tone, as well as their fine motor skills.

If your kids battle to finely control their little fingers before they start school… they’re going to battle to do all sorts of activities like writing and crafts.

If their muscle tone is so poor that they can’t sit still for long periods of time… they’re really going struggle to focus on and finish one activity. And if they’re not doing the activities in class, they’re not going to learn that skill that the teacher has planned! See the problem here?

Now before you start stressing that your kids are not physically developed before the New Year, growing your kids’ Physical Development skills is actually pretty easy. Now is actually a perfect time of year to focus on developing your kids’ Physical skills because of the glorious Summer Holidays starting! It just requires a bit of patience and energy from your side too like:

  1. Rolling or throwing a ball.

  2. Building blocks like Lego.

  3. Any activities that require movement like running, crawling or skipping.

  4. Any activities where their heads are lower than their hands – like a puzzle on the floor.

Once again, I hope that you have found this post useful! Please don’t forget to comment below. I’d love to hear from you! What outdoor activities have you got planned with your kids these holidays? Next week we’ll focus on a couple that will keep your kids entertained for hours!

Bubbles, bubbles, bubbles!

I think that bubble baths are just a natural part of any kid’s childhood… at least, in my home it DEFINITELY is! This is why adding a bubble bath to our Bath Fun range was just a no-brainer. But we wanted something a little more special, which is why we chose Surf’s Up.

My kids loved the Surf’s Up bubble bath more than others because of the thousands of little sequins of all colours, shapes, and sizes that floated around their baths! What child doesn’t want to bath with a whole lot of shiny whales and seahorses?

I loved it because you only need two caps per bath, but (more importantly) because it was the perfect time for my kids to polish up on those tricky fine motor skills as they chased around the bath trying to collect as many sequins as possible. If both of my little ones were in the bath at the same time, we’d have a competition for who can collect the most.

Just a useful tip; those sequins can be REALLY hard to catch… especially in a full bath. So, to make it easier and less frustrating, I’d scoop up some water and let my kids fish them out of my hands.

But the fun didn’t stop there! After every bath, we’d collect the sequins and put them in a jar. Then, during card making time, we bring out the jar and use them to make fun and beautiful cards for our friends’ birthdays.

I really think that you’ll love this product. So, to buy a set of Blue, Red, Yellow and Pink Surfs Up at a special 10% discount, click here https://goo.gl/Tgj3a6  to buy it online now! Just as a side note, bubbles last longer if you’re using soap-free options like our Gloop or Kaleidofoam. Also, to add an extra bit of fun, why not have colourful bubbles by sprinkling some Angle Powder over them? My kids LOVED that!

Don’t be afraid of a little mess… read this to find out why!

In my home, we believe in fun. We believe in creativity. And we definitely believe in fun and creative mess-making. I know that the last part of our ‘belief system’ might send most moms into a flat panic, but hear me out for a second. Did you know that research has shown that a creative child with an average IQ performs better at school than a child with a high IQ but with no creativity. I actually only found this out recently but it makes complete sense – creativity teaches our kids to use their imaginations and to think out of the box. Did you also know that allowing our kids to be completely and uninhabitably expressive while having FUN, is one of the best ways to encourage them to build and flex their creativity muscles. And what better fun, creative and expressive mess-making activity than dipping your fingers into a gooey pot of finger paint and creating a masterpiece of your own? This is why my kids and I just love the Funky Finger Paints in our Acornkids ...
